The Singapore Flyer boasts great island views. Southeast Asia's Ferris Wheel is open to visitors again.

Despite the incident on 23rd December 2008, where a six-hour power failure left 173 passengers stranded, the Singapore Flyer is still a great tourist attraction. Standing tall at 165 metres (541 feet), the Singapore Flyer is currently the tallest Ferris Wheel in the world. Travellers on the Flyer can admire Singapore’s clean-kept beauty, while contemplating its strategic spot in the South China Sea.

Singapore Flyer Ticket Discounts

Many tourists hop on the Singapore Flyer then decide on a separate activity later. Planning these together in advance can help save on Singapore Flyer tickets. Companies like DukW Tours offer packages, like the Flyer and Night Safari, at a discount. An adult Singapore Flyer ticket costs S$29.50 (child at S$20.65), but a traveller who decides on a package can save up to S$10. A customer booking the Singapore Flyer online can also enjoy a 20% discount.

Singapore Flyer also offers special occasion packages, such as a Signature Cocktail Flight, or Moët and Chandon Champagne Flight at adult prices of S$69 and above.

Singapore Flyer Boasts Stunning Views

London Eye passengers have to cram into a specific corner for photo-taking, by an aerial camera. Singapore Flyer passengers need not do that. Couples or groups have their photos taken indoors against a backdrop, before they board the Wheel. This is very convenient for passengers, even if it loses the freshness of an outdoor photo.

But a ride on the Singapore Flyer, especially during off-peak hours, should more than make up for this. The Singapore Flyer capsules are large and spacious, and offer plenty of breathtaking views and photo opportunities. Compass maps and audio guides are free, and very useful. The compass map shows the 360 degree view that encompasses the island: one can see Singapore’s bustling city, her famous Merlion, the Float at Marina Bay, Indonesia’s Batam and East Malaysia in the distance. The view towards the Marina Barrage is astounding, with several ships docking off Singapore’s coastline. Passengers can also make out the Formula One track, used for the Singapore Grand Prix since last year. The location for the Flyer is perfect, as a passenger looking out can see all that surrounds the island of Singapore. Apparently, the Singapore Flyer’s direction was turned clockwise thanks to advice by Feng Shui Masters.

Singapore Flyer Dining & Shops

Singapore’s reputation as a food paradise means it is easy to grab a bite after riding the Singapore Flyer. And a delicious bite at that. Hungrier passengers could succumb to the famous Singapore Chilli Crab, served at Seafood Paradise. Other visitors may want to satisfy their cravings with gorgeous Indian food at Shalimar Palace (serving Halal food), or Japanese food at Hibiki. Local cuisine like Laksa or Hainanese Chicken Rice is readily available at Madam Lin’s Asian Street Food. Or one could easily pick up a snack at the 7-11 convenience store. In the evening, the ambience at Singapore Flyer is irresistible. Seductive sea views and bistro bars beckon to romantic couples.

Fun Things to Do at Singapore Flyer

After the one hour ride, thrill seekers can continue with fun activities like walking through the central garden piece: a built-in rainforest by Yakult. There is also a fish foot spa (using Garra Rufa - Doctor Fish from Turkey), a flight simulator and shops selling exotic goods. At a budget price, one may want to get an aura reading done at Red Dot Collections for just S$19, or sign up at DukW Tours and jump on a sight-seeing amphibious vehicle.
